Producers of the hit new production of Guys & Dolls have confirmed that the musical will have its final performance at the Phoenix Theatre on the 21st August.
Closing four months earlier than expected, the Olivier nominated production currently stars Rebel Wilson as Miss Adelaide, generating positive reviews for her performance . The show’s closure will coincide with Wilson’s final performance later this month.
In a statement producers said: “Having enjoyed rave reviews in the UK, the critically acclaimed Chichester Festival Theatre production of Guys and Dolls will play its final performance in the West End on Sunday August 21, prior to embarking on an international tour. We are incredibly proud of Guys and Dolls and the way it has delighted audiences at Chichester Festival Theatre, in the West End (Savoy and Phoenix), and at numerous major UK venues.”
The Chichester Festival Theatre production, directed by Gordon Greenberg transferred to the West End’s Savoy Theatre in December 2015, before moving to the Phoenix Theatre in March this year.
Guys and Dolls also currently stars Simon Lipkin as Nathan Detroit, Oliver Tompsett as Sky Masterson, Siubhan Harrison as Sarah Brown, and Gavin Spokes as Nicely Nicely Johnson.
No new production to replace the show at the venue has yet been announced, but Gary Barlow and Tim Frith’s musical The Girls, based on the hit film The Calendar Girls is expected to open at the Phoenix Theatre early next year.
