First Impressions: Beauty & The Beast Trailer

The first trailer for the 2017 live action version of the animated classic has been released – so what can we expect?

This early 90’s Disney animated classic is being brought to life once again in anticipated new film starring Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) and Emma Watson (Harry Potter). Now the first trailer has officially landed – revealing a lot more of what to expect.

Of course one of the first things that you notice is the hauntingly familiar and beautiful music from the original that is subtle and adding a sense of familiarity for audiences who grew up with the original and immediately draws you into what unfolds in the couple of minutes of footage we are treated to.

From the second we are taken in the castle, we are swept into a world of magic and enchantment that remains faithful to the original film, but with a more modern twist in terms of style.

We are also given a taster of some of the characters involved. Dan Stevens is understandably unrecognisable as the Beast, Emma Watson will definitely make an intelligent Belle with her humanity and ability to look past the Beast’s looks and the vocal talents of Ewan McGregor (not quite convinced of his French accent) and Ian McKellen.

While from what we get to see in this trailer is highly sophisticated and stylish, there is a slight concern that perhaps this adaptation might lack in heart and the emotional connection that the original has because it is focused on the overall look of the film.

But this aside, it looks set to be a colourful and entertaining adaptation that will suit those who grew up with the animated film and want to get a new perspective of it. The question is whether it will live up to all of the hype that it is generating. We will have to wait until the 17th March 2017 to find out.
