Review Round Up: This House, Garrick Theatre

Last seen in London at the National Theatre four years ago, James Graham’s play is brought to life once again, directed by Jeremy Herrin. But what have critics made of this long awaited West End premiere?

This House

The Guardian: ***** “the whole ensemble contributes to a thrilling play that both relives history and transcends it.”

WhatsOnStage: ***** “the passage of time has done nothing to diminish its exuberant impact – or its sobering pertinence”

The Telegraph: **** ” The most intelligent, entertaining and informative political drama of this decade.”

The Independent: **** “Jeremy Herrin’s production is choreographed with terrific panache.”

The Stage: **** “Graham’s wit and the company’s affection for the sometimes ludicrous traditions of our democratic system shine through.”

Evening Standard: ***** “Both a treat and a triumph, this is a superlative night out in the West End.”

The Upcoming: ***** “Throughout This House Jeremy Herrin stacks up an impressive number of theatrical devices.”

Official Theatre: **** “Herrin’s kaleidoscopic direction drives the action relentlessly on, evoking the hurly-burly and the nail-biting exhilaration of parliamentary life extraordinarily well.”

London Theatre1: **** “This House will entertain, inform and enlighten every audience member of a time that seems to have come back with a vengeance.”

British Theatre Guide: “This House is undoubtedly one of the best British plays to have been written in the last half-dozen years and richly deserves this revival.”

Theatre Cat: ***** “astonishingly perceptive, funny, and thoughtful reconstruction of the mid-70s years.”
