NEWS: Dreamgirls Extends Run Until October 2017

Following rave reviews from its opening night, Sonia Friedman Productions has confirmed that Dreamgirls is now booking at the Savoy Theatre until 21st October 2017.

With best availability from March 2017, Dreamgirls made its UK premiere on Wednesday evening – 35 years after making its Broadway debut.

This eagerly anticipated UK premiere production directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw stars American actress Amber Riley as Effie White Liisi LaFontaine as Deena Jones and Ibinabo Jackas and Lorrell Robinson . Joe Aaron Reid plays Curtis Taylor Jr, Adam J. Bernard plays Jimmy Early, Tyrone Huntleyplays C.C. White, Nicholas Bailey plays Marty and Lily Frazer plays Michelle Morris with Ruth Brown and Karen Mav alternating the role of Effie White at performances when Amber Riley is not scheduled to perform.

Dreamgirls charts the tumultuous journey of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois called ‘The Dreams’, as they learn the hard lesson that show business is as tough as it is fabulous, and features the classic songs ‘And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’, ‘I Am Changing’, ‘Listen’ and ‘One Night Only’.

The creative team for the production includes set design by Tim Hatley, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone, sound design by Richard Brooker and hair design by Josh Marquette.

Having been transformed into a film starring Beyonce and Jamie Foxx in 2006, Dreamgirls originally premiered on Broadway in 1981, directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett. It went on to win six Tony awards including Best Choreography and Best Book of a Musical.
