The Guardian: **** “In the event Robert Carsen’s staging proves to be the least involving element of the evening, providing more irritations than insights; what one takes away is the quality of most of the individual performances.”

The Telegraph: **** “Robert Carsen is a director who knows how to put on a good show, and his handsome new production of Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier will delight audiences sick of carnage, rape and mayhem being scribbled over their favourite operas.”

The Independent: **** “Avoiding the usual opening-scene clichés, Robert Carsen’s felicitous production sails triumphantly through these tests, much helped by outstanding performances.”

The Stage: *** “Here updated to the time of Der Rosenkavalier’s premiere (1911), just before the First World War, it’s not as romantic or nostalgic as usual.”

Evening Standard: **** “Robert Carsen’s production offers a magnificently shaped score and a uniformly strong cast.”

Boulezian: “In many respects, then, this proved a missed opportunity, laced with tantalising hints of how much better things might have been – might still be, if only they/we were to get our act together.”

markronan.com:  “This was a very different Rosenkavalier from the previous one, but utterly compelling.”

The Financial Times: **** “Better to catch Fleming as the Marschallin one more time and Carsen’s bravura production while it is still fresh.”

Bachtrack: **** “Robert Carsen’s new production of Der Rosenkavalier is a great vehicle for Fleming.”

Der Rosenkavalier will continue to perform at the Royal Opera House until the 24th January. To book tickets visit: Ticketmaster.co.uk, Discount Theatre.com, Theatre Tickets Direct.co.uk, Love Theatre.com, Theatre People.com and UK Tickets.co.uk
