With supervillains Doctor Gloom and General Blight attempting world domination, who can we call?Superman’s on holiday. Spiderman’s not picking up. Our only option – our very, very last option – is Bananaman.

Bananaman, the Man-of-Peel, is a unique member of the superhero ranks. This handsome hero may have a jaw line you can see from space and sport the snazziest of tight lycra outfits, but he’s also got “the muscles of 20 men and the brain of 20 mussels.”

Heading the cast as Bananaman himself will be Matthew McKenna, whose previous credits include  The Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard, Legally Blonde the Musical, We Will Rock You, Starlight Express (as Elektra), and The Rocky Horror Show (Riff Raff).

He will be joined on stage by Marc Pickering (Doctor Gloom), Jodie Jacobs (Crow), Mark Newnham (Eric Wimp) and Carl Mullaney (General Blight). Other cast members include: Amy Perry, Chris McGuigan, Brian Gilligan, Emma Ralston, TJ Lloyd and Lizzii Hills.

This new musical will be directed by Mark Perry and has been written and composed by Leon Parris. The creative team for Bananaman the musical also includes choreography by Grant Murphy and  set and costume design by Mike Leopold.

Bananaman the Musical will play at the Southwark Playhouse from the 15th December until the 20th January 2018. For more information visit: http://southwarkplayhouse.co.uk/show/bananaman/
