Peter Wright’s acclaimed production will be broadcast live in cinemas this December.
It has been announced that The Nutcracker will be broadcast live in cinemas to over 900 cinemas on the 8th December to audiences in over 20 countries around the world. The cast is set to include Principal dancer Fumi Kaneko as the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Principal dancer William Bracewell as The Prince.
Join Clara at a delightful Christmas Eve party that becomes a magical adventure once everyone else is tucked up in bed. Marvel at the brilliance of Tchaikovsky’s score, as Clara and her enchanted Nutcracker fight the Mouse King and visit the Sugar Plum Fairy in the glittering Kingdom of Sweets. Peter Wright’s much-loved production for The Royal Ballet, with gorgeous period designs by Julia Trevelyan Oman, keeps true to the spirit of this festive ballet classic, combining the thrill of the fairy tale with spectacular dancing.
The Royal Ballet’s production retains the spirit of the original Russian classic, featuring a mix of solo and ensemble pieces that showcase the company at its best. Originally created in 1984 but reworked since then, the production features sweeping snowscapes, magical stagecraft and a showstopping series of dances performed in the dream-like Land of Sweets.
The ballet features period designs by Julia Trevelyan and lighting by Mark Henderson and will have encore sceenings ill run from Sunday 11 December 2022.
It is being screened as part of the Royal Opera House’s programme of 13 productions through the 2022/2023 season from the Royal Opera House and the Royal Ballet, which will be broadcast to more than 1,300 cinemas from the UK all the way to New Zealand.
