NEWS: UK Release Date Announced for Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things

The film, based on the 1992 novel by  Alasdair Gray, will be heading to UK cinemas later this year.

As well as announcing that Poor Things will be released in cinemas on the 8th September, first look images of Yorgos Lanthimos’ film have been released.

The film sees The Favourite director reuniting with Emma Stone, who is set to star in this adaptation of Alasdair Gray’s novel as Bella Baxter. The film also stars Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo,  Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, Christopher Abbott, Margaret Qualley and Kathryn Hunter.

Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.

Scripted by Tony McNamara, the film is set to be released by Searchlight Pictures in time for a Venice Film Festival debut. Those behind the film include: cinematography by Robbie Ryan and costume design by Holly Waddington.

The film marks the first film in half-a-decade break since The Favourite for Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos.
