It has been announced that the loveable ogre, Princess Fiona and Donkey will return in a brand new film that is set to be released in 2026.
While the plot has yet to be unveiled, the film will see Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz all reprising their roles for the latest film in the series.
Announcing the news via social media, DreamWorks Animation said: “Not too Far, Far Away… Shrek 5 is coming to theatres on July 1 2026 with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz.”
The franchise began in 2001 and won the first Oscar for best animated feature film. Shrek 2 was released in 2004, Shrek The Third came out in 2007, and Shrek Forever After hit cinemas in 2010.
Meanwhile, the wider franchise includes Puss In Boots and Puss In Boots: The Last Wish – both of which saw Antonio Bandera’s lending his voice as the famous cat. But it is yet unclear if he will return for Shrek 5.
Further details of the film have yet to be announced.
