The production will be heading to the New York stage in 2025.
It has been announced that Kenny Leon’s production of Othello starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal will begin performances at the Barrymore Theatre on the 24th February 2025.
This production, which will also see Molly Osborne making her Broadway debut as Desdemona, will have its official opening night on the 23rd March.
Denzel Washington stars as Othello, the noble Moor of Venice and commanding warrior-general. Opposite him, Jake Gyllenhaal portrays Iago, the ambitious lieutenant and masterful manipulator.
Spurned for promotion, Iago’s relentless quest for vengeance against Othello and his wife, Desdemona , plunges them into a shocking web of deception and betrayal.
The Barrymore theatre was also the last home for the previous production of Othello almost 90 years ago when a production played in rep with Macbeth in September and October of 1935.
Othello was last performed on Broadway in 1982, starring James Earl Jones in the title role with Christopher Plummer as Iago. It was last seen in New York in 2016 with Daniel Craig and David Oyelowo at the New York Theatre Workshop.
Full casting and creative team for this revival has yet to be announced.
