NEWS: Wicked Releases Behind the Scenes Footage Ahead of Trailer Release

The trailer for the film adaptation of the hit musical is set to be released on Wednesday (15th May 2024).

First look footage for the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen Schwartz’s musical based on  Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: Life & Times of the Wicked Witch of the West as well as  L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz. The footage comes as a full trailer for the film is set to be released this week.

Before Dorothy, before the flying house, and before the yellow brick road, there was Elphaba and Galinda. Born with emerald-green skin, Elphaba is smart, fiery, misunderstood and possesses extraordinary talent. When circumstances force her to room with the bubbly blonde and exceptionally popular, Galinda, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships. This is the story of The Wizard of Oz reimagined.

Directed by Jon M. Chu (In the Heights), the cast for the film is led by Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, with Jonathan Bailey as  Fiyero. The cast also includes Ethan Slater as Boq, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard of Oz and Keala Settle as Miss Coddle.

The musical’s film adaptation is set to be released in two parts, with the first being released in November this year.

Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman ( who wrote the book for the musical) have collaborated on the screenplay.

2023 marked the 20th anniversary of Wicked’s Broadway production, while the West End production is currently in its 18th year at the Victoria Apollo theatre.

The first part of the film adaptation will be released on the 27th November 2024, with the second part with a scheduled release on the on the 26th November 2025.
