The director’s biopic centring on the life of the opera singer Maria Callas will be released in UK and Ireland cinemas on the 10th January 2025.
Studiocanal have today released a teaser trailer for Pablo Larrain’s latest film that tells the story of the famous American-Greek opera singer Maria Callas as she retreats to Paris during her final days.
The cast is led by Angelina Jolie, who plays the opera singer herself and is joined in the film by Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Valeria Golino, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Haluk Bilginer.
The film was produced by Larraín, Juan De Dios Larraín, Jonas Dornbach and Lorenzo Mieli and had its premiere at the Venice film festival. It was written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who also helped to write Spencer.
Maria is the third female led biopic film directed by Pablo Larrain, following on from his 2016 film Jackie and Princess Diana in 2021’s Spencer – both of which delivered Best Actress Oscar nominations for the actresses who played the central role: Natalie Portman and Kristen Stewart.
