The production will begin performances at the theatre from the 12th November until the 10th January 2026.
It has been announced that Paul Hilton will play the role of Ebenezer Scrooge in the Old Vic Theatre’s annual production of A Christmas Carol, which returns for its ninth year having first appeared in 2017.
With further casting to be confirmed, Jack Thorne’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’s classic story directed by Matthew Warchus has become a firm part of the theatre’s programming.
Last year, the production managed to raise £235,000 for Waterloo Foodbank, with this year’s charity that the theatre will link up with to be announced.
Paul Hilton’s theatre credits includes: Othello, Mosquitoes, Peter Pan, wonder.land, The President of an Empty Room, Mourning Becomes Electra. Meanwhile, his television credits includes: Slow Horses and The Crown. Talking about his casting he said: “At its best, theatre is a transformative ritualistic experience and to play Ebenezer Scrooge in Matthew Warchus’ beautiful production of A Christmas Carol, in the magical Old Vic theatre that sings with the Ghosts and Spirits of the Past, Present and the Future, is a tremendous honour and a privilege. Living the dream.”
Meanwhile, the creative team includes: t and costume designer Rob Howell, composition and arrangements by Christopher Nightingale, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, sound by Simon Baker, casting by David Grindrod, Ebenezer Scrooge and original casting by Jessica Ronane and movement by Lizzi Gee. Jamie Manton is the associate director.
The 2025 revival will also see the continuation of IN CAMERA: PLAYBACK, with the 2020 version of the show set to be broadcast in care homes across the country for free.
