NEWS: Vue Lumière Announces New UK & Ireland Release Date for The Thing With Feathers

Having just had its London premiere as part of the BFI London Film Festival, it has been announced that The Thing With Feathers will be released in UK & Ireland cinemas on the 21st November 2025.

A new trailer for the film has also been released.

It is based on Max Porter’s novella Grief is the Thing with Feathers which won the 2016 International Dylan Thomas Prize, was shortlisted for both The Guardian’sFirst Book Award and The Goldsmith’s Prize and was also a Sunday Times top 100 novel of the 21st century.

The film stars  Academy Award and BAFTA nominee Benedict Cumberbatch as “Dad”, with the cast also including: David Thewlis, Richard Boxall, Henry Boxall, Eric Lampaert, Vinette Robinson and Sam Spruell.

Left to raise two young sons after the unexpected death of his wife, DAD’s life begins to unravel. Grief is messy and chaotic enough as it is, but when it takes the form of an unhinged and unwanted houseguest – CROW – taunting him from the shadows, things start to spiral out of control…but maybe that’s exactly what DAD needs.

This is the fiction-debut of writer-director Dylan Southern. His previous work includes: three acclaimed music documentary features, and he is a multi award-winning director of commercials and music videos.

The film is produced by Andrea Cornwell, Leah Clarke and Adam Ackland it is a Lobo Films & SunnyMarch Production, with Film4 and the BFI (awarding National Lottery funding), in association with Align, Uncommon Creative Studio, MK2 and Rank and File, in co-production with Film I Vast and Filmgate Films.
