The singer’s latest album is filled with emotion and storytelling, all unfolding in an understated way.

Jack Savoretti’s latest studio album is a chilled and thought provoking – but it is also never straightforward, providing plenty of surprises musically along the way.
His ninth studio album opens with ‘The Making of You’ an easy-going but sincere track that feels reflective lyrically, while musically being subtle to ensure that you sit up and pay attention. Its exploration of unconditional love is powerful but well grounded to make it come across as a sincere and charming track.
This is swiftly followed by ‘Can Hurt Sometimes’, a truly beautiful folksy ballad that is filled with longing, sadness and of course beautiful musical harmonies that highlight the strength of storytelling brilliantly.
Even early on, this 13 track album makes it clear its intentions to take the listener on a emotional journey that feels extremely thought-provoking. This being said, it is also never boring to listen to, with tracks including the album title track having an edgier vibe to it musically. ‘We Will Always Be the Way the Way We Were’ is nostalgia filled song that has a wistful quality to it that is hard to resist.
Throughout it all, Savoretti is impressive vocally, showcasing just how versatile his vocals are. In particular, tracks such as ‘I Hear You Calling’ and ‘Anything but a Fool’ really highlight this – this tracks have a sense of theatricality to them but without going over the top. It is a really controlled and well structured album that keeps the listener invested from start to finish.
Each track is of the highest quality, with ‘Step by Step’ and ‘Only Going to Cry For You’ are my personal favourites with each having a soulful sound as well as being irresistibly catchy.
Overall, ‘We Will Always Be the Way We Were’ is an immensely enjoyable record and while it might sound over the top me saying this, it really is good for the soul as well.
The album is available to buy now.
