NEWS: Glam rock musical Space Hamlet to Run at The Cockpit Theatre

It has been announced that this new musical which reimagines Shakespeare’s most iconic tragedy with a cosmic twist will officially open at the Cockpit theatre on the 23rd October.

It’s Shakespeare. In space. With Norse hammers. And Muppet-like aliens running amok.

The Bard’s tragedy gets blasted into orbit, transformed into a cosmic Glam rock comedy featuring norse gods, gladiator pits, space misfits and a golden robot.

Containing adult language, puppet violence and at least one song that Shakespeare definitely didn’t write, it is the ultimate treat for fans of Operation Mincemeat, Avenue Q and Forbidden Planet.

Written by Dan Sturman and R.C. Staab, this production in London follows a run at the Open Door Theatre in Norwich 2025.

Featuring an original Bowie-inspired glam rock score, Space Hamlet is set to star: Nic Gordon as Hamlet, alongside Lucas Fox as Claudius, Ruby Bardwell-Dix as Ophelia, Amy Beven as Horatio and Polonius, Shem Jacobs as King Ham, Lauren Bryant as Gertrude, Elle Overvoorde as Laertes and Lewis Aves as Fortinbras.

Director April Nash said: “It is incredibly exciting to stage our show at The Cockpit, a space
renowned for hosting bold, boundary-pushing new work. With our talented cast of eight actors in a universe of puppet aliens and Viking warriors get ready for an epic production that’s out of this world.”

The creative team also includes: Sound, Set and Scenic Designer Dan Sturman, Costume Designers Jo Myers and Dan Smith, Puppet Wrangler Katie Howell, Orchestrator Acer Smith, Stage Manager Colin Nicol, Sound and Lighting Designer Matt Cross, Choreographer Carole Beatty, Musical Director Christoper Davidson and Puppet Maker Elle Overvoorde.
