Here’s a guide to some of the films that you can expect to see in cinemas in August…
Ice Cream Man:
This new film from Eli Roth and his first under the new Horror Section label. Released on 7th August the film follows a town whose ice cream man is not your typical ice cream man as he turns children into blue-lipped homicidal maniacs.
The cast includes Ari Millen as Ice Cream Man, Eli Roth as Marty and Ryan Allen as Officer Salinger.
This film is perfect for those looking for a summer horror film – although it might make you look at ice cream in a completely different way by the end!
Sunny Dancer:
The Bella Ramsey led drama Sunny Dancer is the latest film from director/writer George Jaques, is a heartwarming film about 17 year old Ivy who has just got through her battle with cancer, but her parents enroll her into a summer camp specifically for those who have also experienced cancer in their lives. It is set to be released on the 14th August and to be one of the most uplifting films to be released in cinemas this month.
Spa Weekend:
For those looking for a film to see with the girls, then you might want to add Spa Weekend to the list. Released on the 21st August, the film follows a group of woman needing a break from the stress from their lives, organising a spa break – leading of course to much hilarity along the way. Written and directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the film is set to star Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann, Anna Faris, and Michelle Buteau.
Rise of the Footsolider: Retribution:
This seventh instalment in the British crime film series is set to be released in cinemas on the 28th August. The film sees Craig Fairbrass is back in the leading role of notorious criminal Pat Tate, with Nick Nevern directing.
Set in 1994, the film is set to open with Tate travelling to Ibiza to track down those who were responsible for his friend’s murder. Expect plenty of action along the way!
Super Troopers 3:
The latest film in the comedy series is set to be screened in cinemas from the 7th August. For those familiar with the franchise, prepare for much more chaos to follow on from the 2018 sequel. The film has been written by and stars Broken Lizard comedy team, made up of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske.
The End of Oak Street:
Directed by David Robert Mitchell and produced by J.J. Abrams, this new sci-fi survival film starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor sees a neighbourhood being uprooted by a cosmic event and transported to an unknown time period teeming with deadly dinosaurs. It is set to be released in cinemas on the 14th August.
Lady:
Samuel Abrahams’ absurdist mockumentary is set to be released in cinemas on the 14th August. Starring Sian Clifford, Lady follows that of a delusional aristocrat who hires an opportunistic young filmmaker to document her life, only to slowly turn invisible as her obsession with the spotlight takes a surreal turn.
