NEWS: Further Casting Announced for The Duchess (Of Malfi)

Zinnie Harris’ adaptation of John Webster’s play will head to the Trafalgar Theatre from the 5th October.

Further casting has now been announced for the upcoming West End run of Zinnie Harris’ adaptation and production of The Duchess (of Malfi).

Joining the previously announced Jodie Whittaker (Doctor WhoBroadchurch) in the production will be: Joel Fry, Rory Fleck Byrne, Jude Owusu, Elizabeth Ayodele, Hubert Burton, Matti Houghton, Hannah Visocchi, Kerill Kelly, Greg Snowden, and Amy Vicary-Smith. Additional cast will be announced soon.

Meanwhile, the children’s cast will include: Baylie Agbonlahor, Christopher Azzopardi, Céleste Fraser, Flor Gandra-Lobina, Hugh Holden, Erin Jemmotte, Isaac Vasunia and Malakai Young.

Recently widowed and in search for a new lease of life, the Duchess (Whittaker) defies her family’s wishes by remarrying beneath her class. However, when her brothers, driven by insurmountable greed and rage, discover her second marriage they unleash a series of cruel and devastating punishments against her that repress her power. But will their vicious atrocities come back to haunt them?

Zinnie Harris’ take on the tragedy first premiered at the Edinburgh Lyceum Theatre in 2019.

The creative team also includes set and costume designer Tom Piper, co-costume designer and associate set designer Max Johns, lighting designer Ben Ormerod, composer Oguz Kaplangi, sound designer MJ McCarthy, video and projection designer Jamie MacDonald, casting director Serena Hill, and children’s casting director Debbie O’Brien.

Jodie Whittaker is not scheduled to appear in the play on the 18th and 19th October.
