Love London Love Culture’s Favourite on Screen Pairings

Whether it Ticket to Paradise or The Ocean’s 11 franchise, there is no denying the irresistible charm that these two classy actors bring to the screen not only as individuals but as the above clip from Ticket to Paradise shows there is a genuine warmth and connection in the way that they perform together. Let’s hope that they appear on screen together again very soon!

Ok so the pair have only starred opposite each other in The Princess Diaries franchise, but there is just an instant click in the way in which they work together as a grandmother and granddaughter trying to connect. The comical moments in the way that they interact with each other (as seen above) feels genuine and unforced – not an easy thing to achieve on screen.

There is no denying that the Lethal Weapon film series is one of my favourites of all time. would it have worked if Mel Gibson hadn’t been the impulsive and reckless Riggs and Danny Glover as the straight laced Murtaugh? I’m not entirely sure that it would as with each passing film the connection and friendship between the characters is really endearing and showcases just how well Gibson and Glover worked together.

Goodness me what a pairing that Streep and Hawn make in the 1990’s film Death Becomes Her. Both their characters are delightfully vicious towards each other and both actresses bounce off each other perfectly (there are too many moments in which I could mention). There is real bite and subtlety in the way in which they make their characters spar with each other that keep the audience invested in how the story unfolds.

These two are completely irresistible in both Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride. Their instant chemistry on Pretty Woman has ensures that as a film it is one of the most iconic romantic comedies of all time, while Runaway Bride captured a deeper side to their chemistry – while providing plenty of charming moments along the way. Between them the romance feels grounded and natural , slow burning to a really satisfying climax which is beautifully done.

I would have loved to have seen Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell working on more films together. Gentleman Prefer Blondes is such a classic film and the performances from both really compliment each other perfectly and to great comical effect on many occasions.

Friends now for over 30 years, it is no wonder that these two are immensely enjoyable to watch perform together whether it is in the Father of the bride films, Three Amigos! or Only Murders in the Building there is no denying their comedy genius together.
